Brenda Stewart was born and raised on a farm in rural North Georgia. After high school and college, she taught in public schools and worked as a County Extension Home Economist. After marrying, she moved north to the eastern shore of Maryland when her husband accepted a position in management at Remington Farms. After her children were in school, she worked as Head of Hospitality and as Manager of the Conference Facilities at Chesapeake Farms. There she was responsible for everything needed by the hundreds of guests from Remington Arms Company and from E.I. DuPont Inc., who attended meetings and seminars at the facilities each year. Brenda retired from this position in order to pursue her interest in art. “I’ve loved all aspects of creating, both crafts and fine art, for as long as I can remember. Finally, when in my mid-fifties, I felt I had to “pick one” and develop that one as best as I was able. I chose the medium of watercolor; I liked the challenge. Pure watercolor is a difficult medium with which to work. But recently, by adding the dimension of mixed media to my work, the “sky is the limit”. I am loving the freedom involved. Nothing is off limits; all can be changed as your instincts demand. I continue to learn something with each piece created. The challenge is still there, like starting a puzzle to which there are no right answers.” Brenda resides in Chestertown, MD with her husband, Richard. Her work can be seen in The Artists’ Gallery on High Street in Chestertown, MD, in The Rock Hall Gallery on Main Street in Rock Hall, MD, and in Gallery 1683 on Main Street in Annapolis, MD.
